Halestorm is a hard rock/alternative metal band out of Pennsylvania fronted by Lzzy Hale. I first heard them on XM Octane and thought they were pretty good. Plus, Lzzy is definitely giving Cristina Scabbia and Tarja  Turunen  some competition for the hottest women in metal. Despite apparently writing music since 1997 or so, their first album (self-titled Halestorm) just released last year. Here are a few singles so far from the album:

Gran Turismo 5 Finally Gets Official Release?

June 18, 2010

Let’s hope so. The much delayed and anticipated, to put it mildly on both accounts, fifth incarnation of Gran Turismo is finally due out November 2, 2010. It’s a Playstation exclusive if that’s not already obvious. The game will boast 950+ cars, over 20 tracks, online play, WRC, NASCAR, F1, GT2 and everything else you’ve come to love from the game – including the addition of vehicle damage (Finally, button mashers can’t win by slamming through corners and hitting people!). Most importantly, though – The Stig (!) and Top Gear’s track! I also hear people talking about the ‘rivalry’ with XBox’s Forza series. Let me be clear that there are no competitors to this series. Comparing Forza to GT is like comparing a McDonald’s cheeseburger to a filet mignon. Forza is a fun game for sure, but more along the lines of Need For Speed or the Test Drive games. This game has A LOT to live up to and if the history of the series is any indication, people will forget about the years of delays very, very quickly. Here’s the ridiculously gorgeous trailer from E3 a few days ago:

Apple pre-sells 600,000 iPhones.

June 16, 2010

Well, the reason for the utter chaos yesterday was because Apple pushed 600,000 pre-sale orders for the iPhone 4. Yes, 600,000. They’re quoting that as 10 times the volume of 3GS phones. AT&T’s servers also processed 13 million eligibility checks (Hell, 100 of them were probably mine). That’s 3 times the previous single-day record. I personally managed to squeeze in an order around 8PM for a launch day delivery via the Apple Store online. Moments later, the ship date pushed to July 2nd. As of right now, it’s July 14th. They are selling an unbelievable amount of phones. I would venture a guess that if you haven’t ordered one by the end of today, you’re looking at late July or early August at this point. I believe AT&T’s site has stopped sales completely right now. Love or hate Apple, they know how to market and sell the shit out of something.

Apple iPhone 4 Pre-Ordering Day An Utter Failure.

June 15, 2010

For those of us looking to pre-order an iPhone via the Apple Store (Online, by phone or in store), we’ve been met with busy servers and error messages all day long. I think the problem lies with AT&T servers as my order always gets hung up at the AT&T eligibility checker.  Why go through Apple Store? Well, first, no $18 upgrade fee. Second, you get it delivered to your door already activated on June 24th. That means no dealing with the hordes at the stores. Unfortunately, it appears that AT&T hasn’t learned anything from the previous 3 launches as you can see below.

Edit: Looks like it’s definitely AT&T’s problem. Over 12 hours and counting.

Final Fantasy XIII Mission 62: Raktavija (Indomitable Will)

June 13, 2010

If you’re going in order, this is probably the toughest fight you’ll have been in so far. These two guys have the potential to really ruin you fast. You might have already faced a single one in Titan’s Trials, but dealing with two is far more difficult – especially for a weaker party. I find it more fun to play these things before you have ultimate weapons and maxed abilities. Otherwise, it’s too easy. I don’t remember what my actual statistics were for this fight, but I think my characters were pretty close to level 5 on their 3 main concentrations and level 1 or so on the others. I had upgraded weapons, but no ultimate weapons. I definitely had Lightning’s Ultima Weapon (not mastered) and Vanille’s Malboro Wand. When you’re equipping accessories, choose everything with magic defense since that’s all these guys use. I used Fang, Lightning and Vanille for this fight as well.

I don’t remember all my paradigms, but I do know I used Tri-Disaster (RAV/RAV/RAV), Relentless Assault (COM/RAV/RAV), Perseverance (SAB/MED/MED) and Exploitation (COM/SAB/SAB).

This fight isn’t going to last long and I don’t think they can remove your status enhancements, so you don’t really need to worry too much about rebuffing yourself. Don’t bother with a Sentinel if you’re going for 5-stars, either. Use the fortisol and aegisol shrouds prior to beginning and enter the fight. The first thing you should do is start debuffing them while Lightning attacks. Her attacks are irrelevant since their shields are up, but if you’re using a quick-stagger weapon, there is always that small chance that she’ll stagger them instantly. Anyway, slow is definitely important so that they aren’t blitzing you constantly. Once they’re debuffed with slow and at least imperil, heal real quick if you need to and switch to Tri-Disaster and go after one of them. Time your attacks well so that the stagger bar doesn’t fall down and reset. Without a COM, it doesn’t stay charged for long. You want to take one of these things out as fast as possible. Once again, if you’re going for 5-stars, no healing until one of them is dead.

Once staggered, stay in Tri-Disaster for a few rounds to punch the stagger to over 600% or so and then switch to Relentless Assault and attack. If you were a low level party like I was, you will find that the Raktavija will have about 15-20% of its HP left as the stagger is about to run out. At this point, use Fang’s Highwind attack (equipped with a Genji Glove, of course) and she will finish it off. If you’re higher level, you won’t need that last knockout blow. Repeat that technique with the last one. To get 5-stars, you might need some luck via an instant stagger from Lightning. It’s a hell of a lot more difficult than I just made it seem if you aren’t strong enough or lacking the proper accessories. Of course, there is a little luck involved and some risks if you’re going for 5-stars.

I also like the title for this fight: Indomitable Will. I believe it was taken from a Ghandi quote, “Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.” I personally guarantee that if you go into this fight like you would any other fight, you will get the shit kicked out of you and fully believe that it’s not possible to win. I say that because that’s what I thought the first 15 or 20 times I tried it. I beat Mission 64 on my third try for a 5-star rating. This one took me over 20 tries to beat and even longer to 5-star.

By the way, feel free to friend me on Playstation Network; I’m Venom_46

35,000 Site Hits.

June 11, 2010

According to my Dashboard, the site just received its 35,000th hit! Thanks to everyone who regularly checks in and I’ll try to be more consistent with my posts. Feedback is always appreciated as well. Just over a year ago, I averaged about 3-4 hits a day and now I’m at close to 300. Still not much, but a huge improvement!

Final Fantasy XIII Versus’ Stella Nox Fleuret Vs. Due Voci’s Kelly Levesque

June 11, 2010

I was watching TLC last night (I’m a sucker for Kate Plus Eight) and I saw a commercial for an album by a group apparently called Due Voci. The woman in the group is a really pretty blonde and the more I saw of her, the more I realized I thought I’d seen her somewhere. Well, it turns out, I kind of did – except she wasn’t exactly real. Ms. Levesque has an uncanny resemblance to the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII Versus’ Stella Nox Fleuret. I’d almost venture a guess that the Final Fantasy character is based off of her. At least we know who gets that role in any kind of live action movie.  Here’s the proof:
