What Do I Listen To When I Drive?

November 21, 2009

This might come as a huge surprise, but when I drive fast or aggressive, I tend to listen to something that calms me down and makes me feel – at peace. Probably because the adrenaline rush can blind your judgment and these songs allow me to relax and think clearer than I normally would.

Aeris/Aerith’s Theme (Piano Version)

Nightwish ‘White Night Fantasy’ (Orchestral Version)

Lady GaGa ‘Bad Romance’

This song took some time to grow on me, but now I love it. I liked her first album well enough and now I’m in the process of acquiring her newest one that just released a few days ago called The Fame Monster.

You can go to my YouTube account here: Shawn HSG

I don’t do much uploading, but you can see what videos I favorite as well as a playlist containing the entire Nightwish ‘End of an Era’ concert. Sounds like an epic win to me.

I’m Writing A Book (No, Really)

November 18, 2009

I’ve always said I was going to write a book. No, not some romance novel or piece of fiction. It will consist of topics dealing with various issues that I’ve been known to rant about and it will be funny. Since my style of humor can’t really be forced, it’ll be a lengthy project, but I’m tentatively shooting for December 2010. I really don’t care if I only have one copy published, it’s really more for me since actually writing a book and ‘publishing’ it has been on my list for a long, long time. A few people have read the entire outline of the 24-25 chapters, but just as a teaser, here are a couple of them:

Chapter I: Women and their unrealistic relationship expectations along with their stereotypical requirements for a mate and what they probably mean according to someone with no educational qualification to interpret them.

Chapter II: Inside, everyone is ugly. What I learned from my experience as a retail pharmacy employee and other vague generalizations I’ve made about the public.

Chapter VI: Why I became an atheist and the price I paid because of it. I’m just kidding, I didn’t pay a price.

Chapter IX: Mario slid down poles to save a princess, but I beat two 1,000,000HP monsters for fun and slaughtered the genetically modified super-soldier that killed my girl and saved the world from a meteor that was basically causing the planet to induce its own cytokine storm. Why Final Fantasy VII is the best video game ever and why any argument against it is silly and nonsensical.

Chapter XII: Driving 101. You fail.

Chapter XVI: There is nothing wrong with divorce – Shit happens. My argument in favor of marriage.

Chapter XXI: Political correctness is retarded developmentally delayed fucking retarded.

Another neat thing is that I’m asking the many people I know who worked with me or still work in pharmacy to submit anecdotes of all the crazy things experienced there.

More Music – Not Metal.

November 18, 2009

Here are some songs I’ve stumbled across that aren’t exactly what I usually post.

Flipsyde – When It Was Good

Little Boots – New In Town (Fred Falke Remix)

David Guetta & Akon – Sexy Bitch (Classy, right?)

Epica Takes On Star Wars.

November 18, 2009

I finally sorted through another 30 albums or so last night. About 1/3 of it was various Epica studio albums, live releases and singles.  I can’t really say I’m that blown away by them. I’m not going to do a huge write-up about them, but I was really impressed by a few songs, mainly Quietus and Cry For The Moon (YouTube embeds below). What did absolutely blow me away was a rendition of The Imperial March on their Classical Conspiracy album. It’s not really far off from the original, but there is just something about the double bass that pushes it to a new level of awesome. Here it is:

Epica – Imperial March (Star Wars Episode V)

Epica – Cry For The Moon (Set To FF7 AC & FF8! On a side note, can you believe FF8 was for PSOne? The graphics were just amazing)

Epica – Quietus

Nightwish “For The Heart I Once Had”
Written By: Tuomas Halopainen

Heaven today is but a way
To a place I once called home
Heart of a child, one final sigh
As another love goes cold

Once my heart beat to the
Rhythm of the falling snow
Blackened below, the river now flows
A stream of molten virgin snow

For the heart I’ll never have
For the child forever gone
The music flows because it longs
For the heart I once had

Living today without a way
To understand the weight of the world
Faded and torn, old and forlorn

My weak and hoping heart
For the child, for the light
For the heart I once had
I’ll believe and foresee
Everything I could ever be

For the heart I’ll never have
For the child forever gone
The music flows because it longs
For the heart I once had

Time will not heal a dead boy’s scars
Time will kill

For the heart I’ll never have
For the child forever gone
The music flows because it longs
For the heart I once had
