Mustang Owners: Douchebags or Not?

June 27, 2009

It always seems like certain car owners have picked up the stereotype of being douchebags.  Everyone always thinks Mustang owners are.  In my experience, it’s about 50/50.  For every one normal person, there is an asshole.  Today was a 50/50 day.

The first guy had a pretty nice dark green 01-04 GT.  It was that dark green you see on the Bullitt.  It was loud as hell and had some pretty big slicks on the back, but I have no idea what mods it had otherwise.  We just kind of accelerated to 100 or so from about 55mph.  Nothing too crazy.  Gave each other a nod and went on our separate ways.

The next car was an old 5.0.  It looked to be an ’87 or so.  These two hillbillys come flying up out of nowhere and almost rear end me at about 75mph.  So then they start swerving in and out of traffic pretty recklessly.  They would change lanes so hard that they were inches from going off the road from the momentum of changing lanes.  Again, massive slicks on the back.  So they end up getting next to me eventually and it’s a couple of redneck kids.  I think the passenger flipped me off for no apparent reason, but I’m not sure, he had fat fingers so they might have just gotten confused.  They start waving at me to race them – except that there is heavy traffic and there is a car literally 5 car lengths ahead of me.  I just gave them a ‘WTF’ look and they eventually gave up and went tearing away swerving through traffic again.  Considering they had the car wide open at one point and I was sort of speeding up in 6th gear and they were unable to really pull away from me, it would have been a waste of my time had there not been traffic.  I can almost guarantee that those kids end up wrecking that car or injuring/killing someone based on how they drove it.  I hate to break it to them, but they’re driving a 22-year-old Mustang with a set-up apparently for drag racing and yet they were trying to drive it like an M3 or an F430.  That is not only a couple of douchebags, but a danger to other drivers.

The most famous man on the planet and perhaps the greatest entertainer of all-time has passed away today.  His alleged sexual misconduct (And it was just ALLEGED) unfairly damaged his name and reputation, but it still doesn’t take away from the fact that he impacted music and culture across the world more than any blog post could ever do justice.  It is a sad day, indeed.

New pictures over at the side link to the Cobra!  Taken 30 May 2009.  Not too bad looking for a car that was built a touch under 7 years ago.

No updates lately, I know.  Nothing new with the car.  I did end up getting that SVT coin holder delete plate.  I can’t remember if I wrote about the install, so I will do it again.  You have to splice it into the 12V plug wires.  It comes with a little splicer clip on the power and ground, so you don’t really need anything.  The most time consuming part is just taking the console apart and such.  I would suggest you not use the tape they provide.  You have to tape the LED to the underside of you console so it shines up toward the hole where the coin holder used to be.  It’s junk.  Buy some 3M tape at Autozone and use that or you’ll be re-sticking it daily – 3M lasts basically forever.  The light comes on with your headlight knob and looks great.  It’s a little bright if you have your interior lights at full brightness, just to warn you.

Right now I’m researching the possibility of replacing the factory Eaton blower with a Kenne Bell variant.  465RWHP doesn’t feel like much now that I’m used to it.  I’d like to push it closer to 600.  It should also give me an excuse to finally get a Spec Stage 3+ clutch.
