Bad Driving.

April 29, 2009

Let me preface this by saying I’ve done some stupid things in a vehicle.  Examples include spinning in circles down a highway onramp and ending up in the mud (It was just me on the onramp, don’t worry).  The time I backed out of a parking spot in high school and just crushed a car that was speeding past behind me.  The time I attempted and failed to run from the police to escape a speeding ticket.  Just to name a few.  The thing is, I’ve always felt I had a basic grasp on actual driving laws.  When I break a driving law, I actually know what I’m doing is wrong.  Today, like most days, I had a few experiences with other motorists that make me think no one has a clue.

First, I was backing out of a parking spot in a one-direction lane.  By that, I mean the spots are angled in a way that you can only drive down it one direction to successfully park.  I make sure no one is coming and back out.  Just as I’m shifting into 1st to go forward once I’m backed out, I hear someone laying on the horn.  I look back and some woman is screaming like I’m going to hit her.  She had seen me back out and still sped up almost to my bumper before deciding to honk like I was at fault.  Do you know what common sense does in that situation?  You see someone backing up and you assume they were backing up before you were in the picture.  Since they are practially out of the space, you sit back and WAIT a few seconds for them to move.  That’s common sense.

Second, turning left at a green light.  Come on, people.  Even if you have a solid green light, people turning right still have the right-of-way.  You only get the right-of-way turning left when you actually have a green turn arrow or there are no cars turning right or going straight.  What is so hard about this?  Doesn’t it just feel wrong?  Like when you are turning across and there are cars going right, don’t you have that moment where you think this just doesn’t feel right?  I guess not.

Yield!

You know what else I never do?  Use my horn.  Do you know why?  I avoid situations where I’d need to use it.  Like the parking spot incident.  You know why else I never use it?  Because when someone is about to hit me, the first thing I do is manuever the hell out of the way.  My first thought is never to hit the horn.  Good or bad?  Who knows.  It’s worked out for me for almost 10 years now.  Knock on wood.

I’m Going To Be A Total Nerd Briefly.

April 29, 2009

OK, so I’m always a nerd.  I have a separate page on my blog for my computer.

First, I received an e-mail from trusty Amazon.com that alerted me to the fact that Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete Edition was soon to be released on Blu-Ray.  I already own in on DVD, but DVD is inadequate.  Regardless, I’ll buy anything FFVII related and the makers of the film know this.

FFVII: Advent Children Complete

Unfortunately, I have to wait until June 2nd.  On a related note, I managed to walk by a weapons store on a recent trip and saw a replica of Cloud’s sword for sale.  How random is that, right?  And yes, you can mumble something about me never getting engaged again because no woman could stick with a guy who contemplates buying a video game replica sword.  I don’t care.  If I ever have that stereotypical ‘man room’, these three swords will be mounted on the wall:

Drain STH/sth.

April 28, 2009

I haven’t done a music post in a long, long time. Today’s is an all-female ‘grunge’ band that was active from 1993 to 2000.  I use the term grunge loosely since I’ve seen them classified as that, but I don’t really hear it as much as you can with more notable grunge bands of that time.  Here are some pictures of Martina Axen, drummer/vocalist, well because she’s hot.

Anyway, Drain STH (or sth – it stands for Stockholm), only had one major album that anyone may have ever seen.  It was called Freaks of Nature and was released in 1999.  There was another album (aside from their EP) called Horror Wrestling.  The very first time I heard this band was when I used to watch the old Extreme Championship Wrestling back in the 90’s.  A wrestler named Simon Diamond and his then-valet Dawn Marie used the song ‘Simon Says’ as his entrance theme.  I used the primitive AOL to find out the song and artist and went to the now-defunct Media Play to buy the album.  Wow, not even 10 years ago and ECW is gone, AOL as the #1 provider is long history and Media Play closed years ago.  Oh, and I actually went to a store and bought albums.

From Ford News Blog:

FORD COMPLETES DEBT RESTRUCTURING INITIATIVES; REDUCES DEBT BY $9.9 BILLION AND LOWERS ANNUAL INTEREST EXPENSE BY MORE THAN $500 MILLION

Read the whole thing at the link.  GM should drop everything except Chevrolet and Cadillac.  Dodge?  Well, Dodge can just go.  Maybe that’s why I’m not an automaker CEO.  Go figure.

Recent Kill.

April 15, 2009

A somewhat respectable car actually tried to race me Sunday night.  Let me note that I never initiate a race because I don’t really care to get arrested, but I don’t usually turn someone down if they try me.  Makes no sense, I know.  Anyway, it was a 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP.  I know, it’s just a Pontiac, but it’s a little more respectable than the ricers and other crap that always rev at me or do fly-bys.  The GXP is a 415HP/415TQ 6.2L LS3.  I was going into 2nd gear when I realized they were trying to race me, so I pushed it full throttle and pulled about a half car length in 2nd (tires spinning through all of 2nd and into 3rd – gotta love the 275mm street tires) and then about 1.5-2 more through 3rd and then shut it down.  It was just a few seconds of actual racing, but there was no need to go any faster since I would have pulled even harder in 4th.  Not bad for a sedan, I guess.  No idea if it was an automatic or the 6-speed TR-6060.

LED Lighting.

April 1, 2009

I just installed the LED reverse lights and license plate lights in the Cobra.  If you order from Lethal Performance, the plate bulbs have a little plastic cap on them that will make it impossible to fit them in the light housing.  Just pop them off and they fit fine.  I’m a little disappointed, though.  While the reverse lights look excellent and are not too bright at all, one of the license plate bulbs seems to be off-colored.  For the 700% mark-up in price vs. buying a generic LED, I expect a little better than that.  I’m certain they’ll replace them, but it’ll drive me crazy while I wait a few days for them to get here.  Anyway, here are some evening pictures.  The car is filthy due to the recent pollen frenzy and messy weather.

all-lights-inThis is with all the lights installed.  Notice the bad LED above the plate.  That license plate will be available in Georgia soon, by the way.  I recently applied to change it.

stock-left-vs-new-rightOn the driver’s side, the stock lighting.  On the passenger side, the LED.  Just to contrast them.  Looks much cleaner to me.  I don’t consider it ricey.

New Blu-Ray.

I recently ordered two new Blu-Ray movies.  It’s becoming quite addicting.

New Vendors List.

April 1, 2009

There’s a new link list off to the side.  About 95% of what’s on my car has been purchased through one of those sites.  I highly recommend you look at these guys first if you’re looking for Mustang/Cobra parts instead of some random Google search result that might save you a few bucks.

MGW, Limited.

mgw

I thought I’d just make a quick post to acknowledge that MGW is an excellent company and definitely the top choice for anything dress-up related for your Mustang, Corvette or Viper.  I can’t vouch for their short-throw, but I do use one of their adjustable handles on my Pro 5.0.  They offer personalized customer service as well.  For instance, an item I ordered was on back-order for one week and I received a phone call and explanation the day after I placed my order.  I’d have been okay with a quick auto-generated e-mail like you’d get with most other companies, but it was definitely a nice touch.  I received the cup holder trim rings today as well and they are exactly as advertised.  No blemishes, very sturdy feeling and no modification needed to get them on.
